Weitz & Luxenberg founding partner Arthur Luxenberg said today that the firm is taking special action to commemorate National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
The New York-based law firm, which represents the interests of many veterans who served in the Navy and other branches of the armed forces, is committing itself to providing continued representation and help for veterans.

Weitz & Luxenberg joins thousands of people and institutions across the nation in reflecting on the Pearl Harbor attack, which was launched by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941.
The attack was one of the worst military defeats suffered by the United States in World War II. Japanese strategists hoped the bombardment would demoralize US forces and lead to aerial and naval superiority for Imperial Japan in the Pacific Theater. Instead, the United States was induced to wade into the waters of World War II and proceeded to score a string of decisive American victories over the Japanese Navy.
Almost 2,500 people were killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. Meanwhile, health officials estimate that 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma every year, many having been exposed to asbestos while serving aboard naval vessels.
“Due to the large amount of asbestos present in almost every Navy ship commissioned before the 1970s, many veterans who served in World War II have been put at risk for mesothelioma and other cancers caused by asbestos,” said Luxenberg. “Helping these people is what drives this firm.
