HLA MEETS NOTIS SFAKIANAKIS

HLA MEETS NOTIS SFAKIANIAKIS ΣΦΑΚΙΑΝΑΚΗΣ

For Immediate Release: November 9, 2009

Contact: Nikolaos Taneris, New York, Tel. 1-917-699-9935

Notis Sfakianakis (Greek:  ΣΦΑΚΙΑΝΑΚΗΣ) is a rare poetic and lyrical musical genius, or a diamond, in the mud of the post-modern age of metrosexual or consumerist Greek singers who sing about the meaningless and blasé. Notis goes against the current system by composing and performing songs with strong resonance for Hellenic traditionalism, Hellenic National Issues and tragedies. In an age where globalization and its Coca-Cola-sponsored pop songs dominate the Greek musical scene, Notis proudly rails against Globalization, drug abuse, America’s imperial wars and Turkish Crimes of Genocide.

Like many our people, he is proud of his working class roots “He supported himself by working as an electrician, plumber, waiter, and laborer” says his official bio on his tour page. http://www.notissfakianakistour.com/Notis_Sfakianakistour.php

Like many of us who dress in back to remember all those who don’t have a voice, Notis wearing black with  a Hellenic Phoenix rising from the ashes topped by a  Byzantine crown graphic on his back, had the first United States performance of his TEN YEARS LATER! NORTH AMERICAN TOUR 2009 in Foxboro, Connecticut on the evening of Sunday, November 08, 2009.

The Hellenic League of America (HLA) was there to support Hellenic Traditionalism and Hellenic National consciousness; our flags included the Macedonian Star of Vergina and the “H KYPROS EINAI ELLINIKH-CYPRUS IS HELLENIC flag showing the Great Island covered by the glowing Parthenon of Hellenism.

THE STOLEN LANDS:TA KLEMMENA

The stolen

A gypsy woman had told me that she’s from Aivali
and I remembered of my grandpa’s words.
In Smyrna he was making sweets and my grandma spices
in my father’s house.

The years that I was younger, I was wondering continuously
why he had always the chest shinned.
And before he died he had told me to keep the key for him
and I saw his last glance (to be) afraid.

In the City*, in Ayia Sofia, Virgin Mary is always weeping
for them that they had been deported in the ships.
In the City, in Ayia Sofia, a fire is still burning
cause Turks are borrowing the divines.**

He left without suffering, but he lived uprooting
this word I head it for the first time at the age of six.
I had asked to tell me the story from the beginning
and as he was speaking each word was dripping blood.

For this I opened too the old chest
and I saw the few things he had taken, the hidden.
Cinnamon, myrrh and water from the costal regions, I suppose
and some dust from the stolen lands.

In the City, in Ayia Sofia, Virgin Mary is always weeping
for them that they had gone persecuted in the ships.
In the City, in Ayia Sofia, a fire is still burning
cause Turks are borrowing the divines.

* City for the Greeks is Constantinople.
** I mean divine things.
